Tom Brady
Tom Brady (3 August 1977) is an American football quarterback for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He is the only player to win six Super Bowls, as well as having won them all playing for one team. He is considered by football enthusiasts to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
Brady attended football camp as a child, and in high school played basketball, baseball and football. At age 18 he was drafted as a catcher for the Montreal Expos but chose instead to attend the University of Michigan and play college football from 1995 to 1999. He majored in Organizational Studies and for two summers interned at the financial firm Merrill Lynch.
In his first two years at Michigan he struggled as backup quarterback to get playing time, at one point hiring a sports psychologist to help deal with frustration and anxiety. But in the latter two years of college, he became lead quarterback, and earned the name of “Comeback Kid” for his ability to wrest victory from opposing teams despite trailing mid-game in points.
After college, he almost missed getting drafted, and when selected as the 199th pick by the New England Patriots, cried with relief that he “wouldn’t have to become an insurance salesman.” Since Brady became their starting quarterback in 2001, the Patriots have won 14 division titles. In addition, he’s led his team in eight Super Bowl games, and won five of them, the 51st Super Bowl being the most dramatic, in which the Patriots overcame a 25-point deficit, the largest comeback in Super Bowl history. Despite his winning ways, Brady is a sore loser, and in the three Super Bowls he’s lost, he fled the field to avoid shaking hands with the winning quarterback.
In Brady’s chart, the Moon occupies the same sign as Ketu but lies outside the degree of the nodal axis, therefore this is a Class 4 “Potential” Kala Sarpa configuration. This is an anuloma type with most planets moving toward Rahu, making it the logical starting point of analysis.
Rahu lies within a degree of the lagna, and therefore occupies the ascendant in most amshas. Both Rahu and lagna are in Chitra, so the qualities of this nakshatra will be evident – privacy, seriousness, craftsmanship, administrative and design skills – but with a presence that sometimes seems larger than life.
Brady was born into Saturn dasha, Mars bhukti. Saturn participates in one of the very few yogas in this chart – Viparita yoga – wherein 6th lord Saturn combines with 12th lord Sun. Saturn is sufficiently removed from the Sun to avoid serious combustion, and the two trikasthana lords are alone in the 11th with no association or aspect from any other planet, thus avoiding the collateral damage that trik lords can sometimes afflict on associates. The combination of 6th and 12th lords together in the 11th reflects his ability to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Indeed, this Viparita is the signature yoga in his horoscope that is so dramatically empowered by Kala Sarpa.
When he played college football for Michigan State, Brady earned the nickname “The Comeback Kid” for his ability to recover from trailing points. In the NFL’s 2009-10 season, he was voted “Comeback Player of the Year.”
Natal bhukti lord Mars is unconnected to any other planet, but as nakshatra dispositor of both Rahu and the lagna, it epitomizes the role of athlete and warrior.
Rahu’s rashi dispositor is lagnesh Mercury, which is also Ketu’s nakshatra dispositor. Although it forms no major yoga, Mercury is influential. It is the sign lord of two Raja yogas involving Jupiter and Venus, and star lord of the Viparita yoga between Sun and Saturn. Since three planets – Sun, Saturn and Ketu – occupy a Mercury nakshatra, this means than in a third of all bhuktis, the thrust will be to animate lagnesh Mercury, the indicator of name and fame.
Ketu’s rashi dispositor is Jupiter, which forms Kesari yoga with the Moon and, as dual kendra lord, participates in two Raja yogas with trinal lord Venus in the 10th house.
The Moon with Ketu, and Saturn’s aspect on Rahu, renders this Kala Sarpa somewhat dosha-like. Although not evident in his professional career thus far, there are hints. During university Brady used a sports psychologist to help deal with frustration and anxiety and, to this day, despite his winning ways, he still can’t handle defeat.
Ketu dasha made him a household name in the National Football League. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in Ketu-Ketu, and led his team to three Super Bowl victories in the following bhuktis of the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn.
Venus dasha has extended his run of professional success. Note that Venus occupies a nakshatra of Rahu, and thus gives Rahu’s results during its periods. In Venus-Venus he was voted Most Valuable Player for the 2007 season, while Associated Press voted him Male Athlete of the Year. For the 2009 season, he was voted NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year.
In Venus-Rahu, there was the “Deflategate” scandal of 2015 involving an under-inflated football. But that aside, in the same bhukti he won two Super Bowls – the 49th on February 1, 2015, and the 51st on February 5, 2017 – the latter of which established a Super Bowl record for largest comeback in history.
